Why did we build AI Mode?
Conversational interfaces are becoming increasingly common in e-commerce thanks to tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and service chatbots. That’s great, because LLMs make it possible to offer a more natural and personalized experience.
But generic AI tools fall short when it comes to product advice:
- Ineffective user experience. Open text input puts the burden on the customer to ask the right questions, even though they’ve just indicated they don’t know what they’re looking for. With AI Mode, 91% of customers on average complete their flow to receive their recommendations, and 61% click through to one of the advised products.
- Incorrect and premature advice. LLMs are “trigger happy” and eager to please: they tend to generate answers before they have the full context of the customer’s needs. With AI Mode, the LLM can only give advice after all required questions are answered, as the underlying logic ensures the conversation always gathers the information needed for a correct recommendation.
- No commercial control. You can’t prompt your way to an LLM that consistently follows your assortment priorities or margin strategy. With AI Mode, every recommendation is governed by the advice logic you define — delivering recommendations that are not only right for the customer, but also aligned with your commercial goals.

When to use AI Mode?

AI Mode is perfect when shoppers need a bit more personal guidance to feel confident in their choice. It turns your product finder into a natural conversation, making it ideal for categories where reassurance, context, or subtle trade-offs matter.
