💻 Frontend Developer

Aiden is looking for an experienced frontend developer. Together with your (also very experienced) colleagues, you will be in charge of 2 applications used by thousands of people every day.

A bit about you

  1. You have 5+ years of experience in frontend development and a strong knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript and the web platform. Experience with frameworks like React and Svelte is a plus — and if you know Elm, we're thrilled. If not, we think you will be.
  2. You have a keen eye for design, understand UX principles, and have a good intuition for what works well. This results in intuitive and visually appealing interfaces that prioritize user needs.
  3. You love identifying problems and coming up with creative solutions for them. You can justify the choices you make and challenge those of others.
  4. Perhaps most importantly: you are curious and eager to learn. You are someone who has always had side projects or loves diving into a subject just because nerding is your hobby. Cool, relevant (or less relevant) hobby projects sometimes say more about your skills than your resume.

A bit about us

  1. Aiden is a young, 100% founder owned software company in Utrecht. With a group of kind, talented people, we create beautiful software and aim to fix a lot of what’s wrong with e-commerce today.
  2. Our goal: to make it easier for consumers to find the right product or service. We do this with our SaaS platform for guided selling, which allows our customers (online stores) to independently create product finders.
  3. Our tech stack is diverse, so there's plenty of technology to pique your interests and dive into. Our frontend consists of Svelte and Elm with some parts in React & Redux. The backend consists of Kotlin, ElasticSearch, and PostgreSQL. All of this runs on top of Docker and Kubernetes in Google Cloud.
  4. We don't work with SCRUM or other Agile frameworks: the less ceremony the better. On the flip side, we do expect you to proactively communicate about your work and progress and to speak up in time if something isn't going as expected.
  5. We’re a small team and we like it that way. Our customers like it too. And it means a lot of responsibility and freedom for our team.

What you're going to do

  1. Together with Dennis, Rienk, and Sietse, you will create and maintain our entire software platform - from front to back and from left to right. Your focus is on the frontend, but you certainly won't limit yourself to the "sauce" and will often dive into an API. If you'd like to touch the full stack, that's also definitely possible, and even encouraged.
  2. You will co-own 2 applications that are used by thousands of people every day:
    1. The Aiden end user application, where over 1,000 product finders are now running. You ensure that these tools are user-friendly and fast.
    2. The Aiden business user application, where over 120 online stores log in to create and manage their product finders. You create new features and improvements that make this work easier and more enjoyable.
  3. If you had been working with us last year, you would have, for example, worked on:
    • Our new sidebar embed form, which allows our guided selling apps to be integrated extra sleekly into online stores.
    • Our (actually useful 🤯) AI features, which now make it much faster for online stores to create a good product finder.
    • Our innovative product check, which allows customers to easily check on the product page of an online store whether that specific product fits them well.
  4. Our roadmap is not set in stone, as we look ahead about 6 weeks at a time. But here are a few major new features we have on the radar for the near future:
    • Localizing product finders, so that an online store can run a product finder in multiple locales without having to manage them separately.
    • Adding an add-to-cart action, allowing a customer to place an advised product directly in the shopping cart.
    • Expanding the "sauce options" for the guided selling frontend, so that online stores can further align the guided selling apps with their own brand/style.
  5. You do all this in direct collaboration with your colleagues. Once it's clear who picks up what, you work independently, but it's certainly not intended that you then sit on your own island for a week. We create the most useful software by regularly involving each other and testing our assumptions.
  6. As you get to know our software and customers better, you will also see more opportunities for how it can be even better. Together with the rest of the team, you regularly discuss the roadmap and suggest ideas for new features, improvements, or fixes.

What we're offering

We are not an IT consultancy, so we won't put you in a leased car. What we do do — besides pay your salary — is provide a great workplace with several benefits that the big guys won't give you:

  1. Mainly this: you work at a small company. Whatever role you have, you always have a direct impact on how we work and grow.
  2. You learn from our current approach, tech stack, and challenges. And together with your development colleagues, you work to make this a little better every week.
  3. Our workdays are flexible. Standups are at 9:30. You work from home or at the office in Utrecht. Since #COVID, we see each other about 1-2 times a week at the office (more is allowed), and we work from home otherwise.
  4. Vacation days. You get 25 of them.
  5. New parent time! If you have a child, we give you 2 extra weeks on top of the regular leave. That time does not count against your remaining vacation days.

How to apply

  1. Maak je CV en een korte omschrijving van waarom je bij ons past.
  2. Stuur het naar ons op ikwilwerken@aiden.cx.
  3. We laten je binnen een paar dagen weten of we een eerste match zien.
